our Mission

Our Mission: We are individuals, neighborhoods, organizations, and agency wildfire professionals working to create and support Fire Adapted Communities and resilient landscapes in the Flathead area by providing leadership, technical assistance, education, and resources.

Fire Adapted Communities : To safely and effectively extinguish fire when needed; use fire when allowable; manage our natural resources; and as a nation, to learn to live with wildland fire. Fire-adapted communities consist of informed and prepared citizens collaboratively planning and taking action to safely coexist with wildland fire.

We:

  • Are inclusive and welcome all partners interested in creating fire-adapted communities. We meet the 4th Thursday of each month to connect, to collaboratively identify projects, align and move efforts forward.

  • Empower residents in preparation of families, homes, properties, & communities before a wildfire starts. Preparation includes: awareness of seasonal conditions, home-hardening, creating and maintaining a Home Ignition Zone, coordinated fuels reduction for wildfire-resilience and forest health, family evacuation planning, and wildfire recovery.

  • Assist landowners in understanding and reducing wildfire risk through educational home and property assessments.

  • Compile and share forest fuels treatment and fire hazard mitigation data and maps. Working across boundaries is essential to making a difference on a landscape level.

  • Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining Community Wildfire Protection Plans.

  • Maintain the FireSafe Flathead website for local preparedness & wildfire related information.
